About this deal

A high-molecular-weight silicone elastomer (rubber-like elastic material) that is usually blended with a base silicone fluid (such as dimethicone or cyclopentasiloxane) to give the formula a silky smooth feel and to act as a thickening agent. Other than having a good safety profile and being quite gentle to the skin it has some other advantages too. You can usually find it right in the very first spot of the ingredient list, meaning it’s the biggest thing out of all the stuff that makes up the product. The supermarket's Lacura Snapshot Ready Glow Primer is said to be an exact 'dupe' for the iconic Photo Finish Primer from Smashbox, which has become something of a holy grail product for beauty enthusiasts. For me to truly accept a product as a dupe, it has to match the quality of the higher end brand, not just have inspired packaging.

A study shows that a nail treatment liquide with 2% panthenol could effectively get into the nail and significantly increase the hydration of it. Fatty alcohols have a long oil-soluble (and thus emollient) tail part that makes them absolutely non-drying and non-irritating and are totally ok for the skin. HA is famous for its crazy water holding capacity as it can bind up to 1000 times its own weight in water.Budget supermarket chain Aldi has become well known for its range of high quality and affordable make-up 'dupes' that won't break the bank. Finance is provided by PayPal Credit (a trading name of PayPal UK Ltd, Whittaker House, Whittaker Avenue, Richmond-Upon-Thames, Surrey, United Kingdom, TW9 1EH). This is a clear gel that goes on before you apply foundation, and it helps to hide pores and fine lines.

But their hot cloth cleanser is a great dupe for Liz Earle, and their fragrances are great too - like this Tom Ford inspired scent. Vitamin A - the most proven anti-aging ingredient available OTC that can smooth wrinkles and make skin firmer. Also, works well to fill in fine lines and wrinkles and give skin a plump look (of course that is only temporary, but still, it's nice). I applied the Smashbox primer to the right side of my face and took notice of how well it glided on to the skin to blur imperfections and the appearance of blemishes. Having used the more expensive original for a while now, someone could easily swap the contents of my must-have primer for Aldi’s version and I’m pretty sure I’d never even realise. It is a white powder with a fabulous sheen and a nice skin feel and it is still very popular in decorative cosmetics. Packed with botanical oils like sweet almond oil, jojoba oil, rosehip oil, pomegranate see oil and orange peel extract, plus vitamin E, the supermarket says it will leave you “smelling and feeling incredible”. Superb primer - after using the Smashbox one for years switched to this one and saved a fortune and really could not tell a difference between them. The stickiness does dry after a couple of minutes so it doesn’t feel uncomfortable on the skin, providing a matte base ready for makeup application.

Aldi is often praised for its high quality beauty range, with many items on offer including makeup, skincare and bathing products. The TL; DR version of HA is that it's a huge polymer (big molecule from repeated subunits) found in the skin that acts as a sponge helping the skin to hold onto water, being plump and elastic. Another product that featured in our round-up of the supermarket’s best beauty dupes, our tester said the texture and consistency is strikingly similar to the real thing. It’s the silicones within the primer which give the pore-blurring effect, and it’s rare to find a primer which does offer blurring benefits without having that same slimey texture. If you wanna become a real HA-and-the-skin expert you can read way more about the topic at hyaluronic acid (including penetration-questions, differences between high and low molecular weight versions and a bunch of references to scientific literature). A light-feeling, volatile (meaning it does not absorb into the skin but evaporates from it) silicone that gives skin a unique, silky and non-greasy feel.

I then used the Aldi dupe on the other side of my face and found the formula to be stickier in texture, leaving a tackiness on the skin. It’s safe and gentle, but even more importantly, it’s not a feared-by-everyone-mostly-without-scientific-reason paraben. On the box, the product boasts that it is oil-free and contains vitamins A and E, grapeseed extract and green tea. Compared to the pure form it's more stable, has longer shelf life, but it's also more poorly absorbed by the skin. To use, apply a pea-sized amount before foundation, starting in the center of the face and blending outward.
