The story kept me well entertained and there were so many things yet to be resolved without it feeling overwhelming or hard to follow, which is a big plus in my eyes. In fact, there's a lot of Wheel of Time influences in the book but the world is considerably darker.

Indie Focus: I am going to try and make these segment focused on indie books, because as an indie author myself I feel an obligation to spread the love. A big part of this likely has to do with how the first book emotionally destroyed me, and I’m so attached to these two now because of that, but it’s made for an excellent storyline nonetheless! Plot: This book really straddled the line for me, because it was both very predictable and yet somehow still surprising. I've often felt Spencer's work will appeal to a range of fantasy enthusiasts, with her ability to weave grimdark assholery into a sprawling high fantasy tapestry that, if tropes are to be believed, should be populated by bland, uninspired white knights and big titty elf princesses trying to save the world because save the world.A world phenomenon is activated and both dark and light magi join to obtain the bead but alas, our protagonist turns tables on them but loses his life in the end and his right to travel the samsara river. Darkmage is a treat for grimdark fantasy fans who appreciate well-crafted characters and a heavy sense that ‘good’ is probably not going to win. I'm not saying she's a bad author, but she did not do good on this book, I would've liked Kara better as the dark mage. Our difference from normal humans was why we had to hide in this old mansion so that we wouldn’t get hurt or taken by the bad people. The safety of the Magic Web, and the worlds it connects together, hangs on their success as they battle two main antagonists, the Dark Sorceress and the Spider Witch, who wish to harness the tremendous magical energy and magic of Avalon and distort the Magic Web for their own evil ends.
